Get ready for a math test
Make a list of the questions the test will cover, switch on This is for a test and pick the day. Plusy keeps that list first and counts down to it.
How do I set up a list for a test?
To get ready for a math test in Plusy, make a list of the questions, turn on the switch This is for a test and choose the test day. The quickest way in is the Get ready for a test shortcut on Home, which opens the list builder with the switch already on.
Open the builder
On Home, tap Get ready for a test. Or go to My lists, tap New list and turn on This is for a test yourself.
Add the questions
Type or paste them, pick a range, or photograph the revision sheet. See Make your own list and Scan a worksheet.
Say when the test is
Under When is the test? choose tomorrow or one of the next three school days, tap Pick a date for a later day, or choose Not sure yet.
Save and start
Start saves the list and begins the first round. Save for later keeps it for another time.
An existing list can become a test list too: open it, tap Edit, turn on This is for a test, pick the day and tap Save changes.
What does the countdown show?
A test list carries a small chip that counts down to the day: Test in 3 days, then Test tomorrow, then Test today. The chip is on the list's row in My lists and on Home, and the list's own page shows the days to go. A list with no date yet says Test: not sure yet.
Lists with a test coming up are shown first, soonest first, both on Home and in My lists, so the one that matters this week is the one your child sees when the app opens.
The countdown is on screen only. Plusy sends no reminders, notifications or emails about a test day, so the habit of opening the app still comes from you.
How is a test list practiced?
A test list is practiced the way a written test is taken: your child types every answer, with no second chances and no teaching during the round. A wrong answer shows the right one and the round moves on. The end of the round shows the score and the questions that were missed.
A list longer than 12 questions is practiced in parts of 12, in the list's order. The list's page says which part is next, for example Part 2 of 3, and each finished part moves the list on to the next. Three short rounds across three evenings cover a 36-question list.
What is a good way to use the days before the test?
- Still learning the material: leave This is for a test off for the first days. An ordinary list explains a wrong answer and brings the missed question back in the same round.
- Closer to the day: tap Edit, turn the switch on and set the day, so your child practices recalling each answer with nothing to pick from.
- For a warm-up that uses no heart: Matching is a free board of five questions and five answers.
- Keep it short: one part is 12 questions. A part a day is plenty for most lists.
A list round uses one heart, like any round. If hearts run out the evening before the test, Matching on the list is still free. What are hearts? explains what uses one.
What happens on the test day and afterwards?
On the day itself the chip reads Test today and the list still plays as before. Once the day has passed, the chip goes and the list becomes an ordinary list again. Nothing is deleted: the questions stay in My lists until you delete the list, and your child can keep playing it.
For the next test, either make a new list or tap Edit on the old one, change the questions and set a new day.
Questions
Can I change the test day after saving?
Yes. Open the list, tap Edit, choose a new day under When is the test? and tap Save changes. The countdown chip follows the new date.
What if I do not know the date yet?
Choose Not sure yet. The list is still marked as a test list, and its chip reads Test: not sure yet until you edit the list and pick a day.
Will Plusy remind us to practice?
No. Plusy has no reminders, notifications or emails about a test. The countdown shows only when the app is open, where the test list is placed first.
Can the test list include long multiplication or division?
Yes. Any one-step whole-number question with an answer up to 99,999 can be in a list, and larger questions are worked in columns on screen. See Column questions.
Can I send the test list to a classmate's parent?
Yes. Tap Share on the list and send the link. They see the questions, the test day and a Play button, and need no account. See Share a list.
