Hearts and the unlock

What are hearts?

A heart is what a round costs on a free account. Starting a round uses one heart, wrong answers never cost any, and hearts come back on their own.

What is a heart for?

In Plusy, a heart is the cost of starting a round. One heart is taken as the round opens, and that is the only time a heart is ever used. Hearts are the one limit on a free account: every road, world and game is open, and hearts decide how much is played in a sitting.

The hearts are in the row of stats at the top of the app. Tapping them shows how many are left and when the next one is due. The app's own line sums it up: A round uses one heart. Tests and replays are free.

What uses a heart, and what never does?

A round that moves your child forward or pays coins uses one heart. Tests, replays and the Matching board are free, so there is always something to play. The table lists every kind of round.

Does a wrong answer cost a heart?

No. A wrong answer in Plusy costs nothing. The heart was used when the round opened, and nothing your child does inside the round takes another. A miss shows the right answer and a trick to remember it, and the question comes back once later in the same round.

Asking for help is free too. Hint, Show me and the walkthrough after a miss use no hearts, and neither does Skip. A child is never charged for not knowing something. See Wrong answers and Hints and steps.

What happens if my child leaves a round?

If your child leaves a round before answering anything, the heart comes back. The same is true when the app is closed before the first answer: the heart returns by itself a little later. After the first answer, Plusy asks Leave this round? and a round that is left has used its heart.

How do hearts come back?

Hearts come back on their own. They return over time while your child is running low, and a new day brings some back as well. There is nothing to do, nothing to watch and nothing to buy: your child can close the app and find hearts waiting next time.

Coins never buy hearts, and Plusy sells no heart packs. The only way to have more is to wait, or to unlock Plusy once, which makes them unlimited.

What does my child see when hearts run out?

When there are no hearts left and your child starts a round that needs one, Plusy shows a screen headed Out of hearts that says when the next one is due. The same screen offers the unlock, for a grown-up. Nothing is lost: progress, coins and the streak stay exactly as they were.

Out of hearts is not the end of practice. These stay free:

Replays and Matching pay no coins and do not move the road. They are practice for its own sake.

How do unlimited hearts work?

Unlocking Plusy removes the heart limit for the account. Hearts show as an infinity sign and never run out, so your child can play as many rounds as they like on any device they sign in on. It is one payment of $29, not a subscription. Details are in Unlock Plusy.

Questions

My child lost a heart and the round never started. Is it gone?

No. A round that is opened and closed before the first answer gives its heart back. If the app was closed suddenly, the heart returns by itself a little later.

Can my child earn hearts by playing well?

No. Hearts are not a reward and cannot be earned, bought with coins or won. They come back on their own with time and with a new day.

Do hints make a round cost more?

No. A hint never uses a heart. A question that was answered with a hint is counted as not right first time and comes back once later in the round, and that is the whole cost.

Does Matching count toward the streak?

No. Matching is a free practice board: it uses no heart, pays no coins and saves nothing, so it does not count as a finished round for the streak. A replayed level does count.
